I was a bit shocked this morning when I opened the garage door and saw more rain and fog. I didn't know it had been raining. I haven't watched the morning news this whole week due to my new goal of listening to a conference address while I get ready. As I was driving to work today I realized that I love rain.
Not only does it bath the earth and cleans it so everything looks fresh and new after but there is a wonderful smell that comes with rain. I also enjoy rain because it reminds me that we need water to survive and this is slightly important in my opinion.
When we lived in California we were having a severe drought and the time came when we were asked as an area to fast and pray for rain. We of course participated and having small children we saw this as a great time to get them involved and to teach them about fasting and praying and how we can ask the Lord for those things we need.
We talked to the kids and we prayed and fasted. The rain came and we reinforced the lesson about the mercy of the Lord. A few days after our lesson on praying, fasting and the Lord blessing us with rain we knelt down to have family prayer. Bryan was in Kindergarten and was asked to say the prayer. In his sweet child's innocence he prayed for more rain. We did need more rain that was for sure but as I stood outside with him waiting for the bus I thought to myself, gee I guess we will need to have a talk about how sometimes ours prayers aren't answered right away or we are given a no answer. "Poor little guy isn't going to have his prayers answered this time." The sky was blue and it was a beautiful day. There wasn't going to be any rain today.
Off he went to school and into the house I went sure my adult knowledge and observations were correct. The day went on and much to my surprise the rain came. I felt like such a fool for not having the simple child like faith my son had. His simple prayer was answered in the form of rain. Such a powerful lesson from a wee one!
So fast forward today, whenever I see rain I always think of answered prayers. I was taught that day by a small child who had full faith his prayer would be answered. I am thankful for those sweet lessons of life!

I don't remember that. Interesting that we need to work on gaining back the faith we had as children.
